Two of Wanda Sykes’ best jokes are about things we're not sure if we can put in print in an appropriately faithful fashion—well, maybe we can get away with the part on Curb Your Enthusiasm where she goes after Larry David for his ass obsession. (“OK, assy—what is all that shit all over your shirt? You been scrounging around, looking for ass?”) And, of course, the other is about the detachable vagina, possibly her most enduring concept and still brutally hilarious a few years on. Those are both examples of Sykes at her most agile and devastating—peeling apart a topic unfortunate enough to become her target and dissolving it with characteristically acid wit. Her latest project is the film The Hot Flashes, with the director of Desperately Seeking Susan, but her stand-up is where she destroys.
