Anaheim indie band We Are the Pilots may have made things harder for themselves by choosing a name that is virtually identical to Shiny Toy Gun’s 2006 release We Are Pilots. But listening to the band after the inevitable wild goose engine search lends the experience of discovering buried treasure. These purveyors of indie-tastic dream pop play languid, fuzzy songs at times filled out with wonky sounds akin to a CB radio crossed with a rain forest cacophony. The resulting sonic soup straddles the nexus between early Shins and Dios met with the vintage rock sensibilities of Black Lips—if all of the aforementioned bands took a couple Valiums before playing. So check them out, enjoy a little local treasure and some gold-hued dreams.
