This year’s US Open of Surfing managed to round up some major music talent to accompany the competition at Huntington Beach, headlined by Weezer. It makes sense: back on their 1994 self-title debut record, they released “Surf Wax America,” an ode to the waves straight out of the Jan & Dean playbook. Unlike nearly every other non-Green Day alternative rock band from the mid-‘90s, Weezer has managed to stay relevant and attract new fans — just look at their recent inescapable hit, “(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To.” Hot Hot Heat — who formed in Canada but have spent a lot of time in Southern California lately, including a residency at the Bootleg Theater in LA this past June — open up.
