Wet Hot American Summer was one of those low-budget high-inspiration movies that was so far ahead of its time that it might have well as been a crashed UFO. Could the people of 2001 even comprehend the true power of a sarcast-o-tastic summer-camp film starring Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, Ken Marino and … well, pretty much everyone who’d go from cult-comedy-to-colossal in the next decade? But the Garage Theater gets it, and they’ve remade Wet Hot in their own image: “[Creator] David Wain gave us permission to go nuts,” they say, “and go nuts we did!” So consider it more like a cover song than an adaptation, with the thespian equivalent of happily extravagant 80s guitar solos.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 20. Continues through April 4, 2015
