As we reported this morning, California voters rejected Proposition 37, the ballot measure that would have required the labeling of genetically engineered food. Supporters believed the initiative would prevent a misleading use of the word “natural” on foods that have been modified in a lab. What may surprise you is which food companies hopped on board with the efforts–and which did not.
Advocacy group Cornucopia Institute created a chart detailing the contributions of companies on both sides of Prop 37, as listed by the California Secretary of State. Fighting against the measure were a number of popular, so-called health brands–Naked, Silk, Kashi, Odwalla–owned by corporate giants such as Coca-Cola and Kellogg.
