Village Voice/Frank 151 SXSW Party
March 17, 2011
Austin Music Hall
Of course, you wish you were there. According to Houston Press, the all-night lineup for the 2011 Village Voice and Frank 151 Showdown at SXSW was one of the festival's most anticipated showcases, featuring Times New Viking, Yelawolf and all of Wu-Tang Clan (well, all seven, not including Ol' Dirty Bastard, duh). If you weren't, well, we have highlights for you after the jump.

- Wild Flag, the all-girl group featuring former members of
Sleater-Kinney and Stephen Malkmus' band, was a huge hit. - Trouble Andrew, Santigold's fiance, came onstage wearing braces and a
Fred Perry shirt, singing pop/punk/funk and was later joined
by a rapper/toaster with a nameplate necklace to rival a Houston Rodeo
belt buckle. - Rocky Business' multigenre approach to
political and cultural commentary was tech- and beat-heavy and got everyone dancing. - Singer/rapper Marz Lovejoy warmed up the crowd before Houston's Trae Tha Truth took to the stage with an entourage of
dirty South Texas rappers. - Yelawolf is today's Kid
Rock. Or Tommy Lee. Or both.
- Sound checks took forever.
- Fishbone seemed a
bit out of place on the hip-hop- heavy bill - Wu-Tang, as usual, didn't perform until 1 a.m.
- DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown (a.k.a. Erykah Badu) was billed as a guest DJ but shared the stage with Wu-Tang
for their last few songs.
