The Wilmore 9 Festival takes over North Pine St. for its debut this year, featuring dozens of bands, stacks of films and the usual much more—which in this case means a pop-up skate park, a VIP area with pools (yes!) and a charity component donating to Music Saves Lives. (Plus a full bar, food trucks and beer garden repping local brewers.) Three stages will run through a robust sampling of up-and-coming LA-area independents, including So Many Wizards, Brown and Blue, Y Luv, Batwings Catwings, Western Lows, Gorgeous and (also yes!) more. And even after a public vote to select the best submissions, the film schedule’s still filling four theaters. This is some kind of crazy ambition at work here—make sure to go so you have good stories once this becomes a tradition!
